Imagine playing Killzone 2 or inFamous with Sony’s new motion controller. While the new controller is still in development, Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, says he wants the new controller to be compatible with every game on the PlayStation 3.
Speaking with CNBC, Tretton says gamers may be surprised when they see how many games will support the new motion controller technology. He says he can’t imagine playing God of War 3 with a Wii controller, but Sony’s motion controller could certainly handle it, and more.
“I think our (motion) controller can be used with every game that’s on the system now – and every game we’re working on,” said Tretton.
When asked if updates to existing games could make them compatible with the new controller, Tretton replied, “I think that’s absolutely conceivable.”
Tretton also commented on a PS3 price cut: “I think everybody but us would love to see it given away for free.” As he mentioned at Sony’s press conference at E3, the company is focusing on a 10-year lifespan for the PS3. With no official announcement, Tretton did add, “We’ll do everything we can do to make our pricing relevant. But remember cheapest isn’t always the most successful. It’s what you get for your dollar.”
