The second day of E3 was absolutely explosive. Seb primarily went off to make contacts yesterday, so I was on my own. My first stop was Capcom, where I played both Lost Planet 2 and Dark Void. Both games are solid, though Lost Planet 2 seems a bit more polished currently. After Capcom, I headed back to Activision, since Seb and I only had time to check out Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 at the Activision booth on Tuesday. While I was sorely disappointed that Modern Warfare 2 wasn’t playable, I was able to watch developer demos of Wolfenstein and Singularity, and also get my hands on Blur and my feet on Tony Hawk: Ride.
Following Activision, I headed over to Sony to check out the company’s entire first-party line-up. This was definitely the highlight of the show. I was so engrossed in the games that Sony had to offer in its media and VIP section that I didn’t even notice Elijah Wood (Frodo in the Lord of the Rings movies, among other roles) sitting next to me until he had to get up to leave. I was playing Heavy Rain at the time, just in case you were curious. While we’re on the topic of celebrities, I met Jon Heder at the Capcom booth, and saw Verne Troyer at the Sony booth.
In addition to Heavy Rain, I also got quality hands-on time with God of War III, M.A.G., White Knight Chronicles, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, LittleBigPlanet PSP, and Gran Turismo PSP (both PSP games on PSP Go). I wasn’t allowed to play Uncharted 2 single-player, but I was given a personal demo of an unannounced level from one of the game’s developers.
After the Sony booth tour, which took up the majority of the day, I had about an hour left to check out a few games. I ventured over to the south hall to play the EA game I was most excited about: Brutal Legend. Turns out I was right — it’s an excellent game. Then, with only 20 minutes left, I had time for one more title, so I raced over to the explosive Split/Second. Even though the rep I spoke to said it was likely a 2010 release, the game seemed incredibly polished, and was generally a blast.
While Seb is attending Day 3 of E3, I’m not going to the convention center today, due to my early flight time. I’ll have a bit of time this morning to start on these previews, and I’ll also be working on the plane ride, so if there are specific ones you’d like to see first, let me know in the comment section below.
