Yesterday we reported that Paramount may drop HD DVD and side with Sony’s Blu-ray technology, following the recent move by Time Warner, which has populated the news since before CES. However, it has since transpired that the company has no plans to abandon HD DVD and will continue to support the format.
Today Paramount made it clear just which format they are siding with, as a spokesperson for the company stated: "Paramount’s current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format".
While it is good to hear some concrete news, this does full up speculation as to why exactly Paramount figures HD DVD to still have a shot at taking down Blu-ray. Possibilities point towards the company being paid off, while some believe the firm may already be working with Blu-ray under the table and have yet to announce as much.
The debate is in the air. We will keep you posted on any further developments.
