DigiTimes is reporting that Sony will release a successor to the PlayStation 3 in 2012 complete with Kinect-style motion control functionality.
According to the report, the new platform will begin production at the end of this year and will be released at some point in 2012. Apparently, Foxconn and Pegatron Technology will be handling manufacturing duties.
Chatter on next-generation platforms has kicked up a notch in the past month or so, with Nintendo prepping their new console for next year and Microsoft supposedly set to unveil new hardware at E3 2012.
Sony has continually dismissed rumors of a PlayStation 4, insisting it will be backing the PS3 and upcoming PS Vita for the foreseeable future. The latest rumors in regards to a new Sony machine have suggested a 2013/2014 launch window.
