Soul Reaver reboot in works at Crystal Dynamics?

Crystal Dynamics is beavering away on a full reboot of classic vampire outing Soul Reaver, reports VG247.

According to a source close to the site, the game is said to be a full reworking of the title, including all-new art direction. Further details are unknown at this point, though there is a possibility the project may be revealed at E3.

The franchise itself debuted in 1996 with the PlayStation top-down classic Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, with the titular hero being a noble who was murdered and subsequently resurrected as a vampire.

A follow-up, Soul Reaver, featured a new hero by the name of Raziel; a vampire who was slain by Kain, only to be revived by The Elder God as a wraith to exact revenge.

Soul Reaver 2 followed in 2001, with Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Defiance arriving in 2002 and 2003, respectively. However, beyond some of the earlier games turning up on PlayStation Network, the franchise has been on hiatus ever since.

Crystal Dynamics is already hard at work on a reboot of another popular franchise, namely Tomb Raider, due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in late 2012.

Stay tuned.
