Tekken Tag 2 probably won’t hit consoles until 2012

Namco Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada has revealed that the console port of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is unlikely to see the light of day this year.

Speaking to Eurogamer, the Tekken producer said that TTT2 will be the first in a barrage of fresh Tekken games to see release though admitted it probably won’t launch on home consoles until 2012.

"I can’t tell you the order at this moment because, naturally, we haven’t announced some of these release dates," said Harada.

"TTT2 is probably the first one people will see. It’s still only 80 per cent complete, but it’ll be released around fall in Japan and Asia. That’ll be the first one people will see."

Pushed as to when TTT2 will see the light of day on consoles, he offered: "It’s really hard to say. I can’t say even that’ll it’ll be this year. We can’t really have a console version right after the arcade version. Probably not this year is the only answer."

Namco has a heap of Tekken games in the works, including Tekken x Street Fighter, Tekken Hybrid (a HD revamp of the original Tekken Tag bundled with CG flick Blood Vengeance), Tekken 3DS, Tekken Wii U and, of course, Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

However, that’s not all the firm has up its sleeves; Harada hinted that more games are also in the pipeline that have yet to be announced. Tekken 7 perhaps? Namco’s not saying.

“You might be surprised to hear that this isn’t even all of what we have for Tekken," Harada teased. "There are some things we haven’t announced yet. If you heard that you probably would be quite shocked at the volume overall."
