E3 2012: Rage future TBD, says Bethesda

Bethesda has revealed it still hopes to make Rage a major franchise for the publisher.

Developed by id software, the first-person shooter was released in October 2011 and received positive reviews from critics. However, Bethesda has yet to divulge any sales figures for the game.

During the months leading up to the game’s release, the publisher expressed hits hope that Rage would sell enough copies at retail in order to spawn a new franchise. The question is, did it?

Nonetheless, Bethesda’s Pete Hines reassured fans that the company still has high hopes for the IP, though conceded most folk are interested in finding out what the status is with Doom 4 as opposed to Rage.

“We’re looking at doing some things with Rage. But obviously the first thing out of anybody’s lips now when we talk about id is not, hey, what else is up with Rage? They’re asking the question they’ve been asking for five years, six years, seven years, which is, where’s Doom 4? What about Doom 4?" he told EG.

"As far as where we are with Rage, the future for that is still TBD."

Which begs the question, where is Doom 4 at? “It’s being worked on,” was all Hines could offer.

PS3 owners can look forward to a number of heavy hitters from Bethesda this year, including the upcoming Skyrim expansion Dawnguard plus the BFG Edition of Doom 3.
