Report: No Gamescom reveal for PS3-4000

Contrary to previous reports, Sony will not announce a new PlayStation 3 model – dubbed the super slim PS3 – at Gamescom next month, reports VG247.

According to a source close to the website, the PS3-4000 was indeed planned to be unveiled at the Cologne-based event. However, due to the fact stock for the current SKU remains too high, the company made the decisions to postpone the announcement.

However, the source added that the long-rumored 16GB 4000 model is the real deal, and will be based on flash memory. It’ll go head-to-head with Microsoft’s 4GB flash-based Xbox 360, and will have flip-lid disc input.

Furthermore, the unveiling of the new SKU “may” be joined by a substantial price cut, with the possibility that the entry model may retail for as low as £99.
