During his keynote address at PAX Prime 2012 earlier today, Insomniac Games president Ted Price took the time to answer numerous questions from the audience. In doing so, he revealed an interesting piece of Resistance history that never saw the light of day.
One attendee asked Price to name his favorite scrapped item from the Ratchet & Clank series, the coolest gadget or weapon that, for whatever reason, never made it into the final product. Price was unable to think of one from past Ratchet titles, but his mind immediately strayed to a particular Resistance weapon that didn’t make the final cut. "The Tapper", as he called it, would’ve enabled players to shoot sharpened pieces of metal pipe into Chimeran enemies. These pipes would quite literally "tap" enemies, much like maple syrup harvesters tap trees for sap.
The result? Spouts of blood that drain from enemies like a fountain. Imagine the tap pictured below, gushing blood instead of dripping sap. Also, add ten more.
It’s too bad that we won’t ever see this gloriously gruesome weapon in action… Or will we? Stay tuned to PSU.com for more, and let us know what you think of The Tapper in the comments below.
