Next Assassin’s Creed will explore a new time period, coming FY 2014

During Ubisoft’s quarterly earnings call earlier today, CEO Yves Guillemot announced that a new Assassin’s Creed game – featuring a new protagonist and setting – will be released during the 2014 fiscal year.

The release window is about as vague as they come, but history suggests that the developer and publisher may be prepping the title for launch during the 2013 holiday season. While the game’s title is unknown, it’s probably safe to refer to it as "Assassin’s Creed 4" for now, given that it won’t be an offshoot story like Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood or Assassin’s Creed: Revelations before it.

Apparently, the game has been in development for some time, as Guillemot explained: ". . . in financial year 14, we will introduce an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all-new team and time period, and we expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise. It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game."

The question is, will PlayStation 4 be out in time for Assassin’s Creed 4 to serve as a launch title?

Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation impressed us late last year. While we wait for further details on next year’s release, let us know in the comments which time period you’d like to see visited.
