GTA V’s action comes faster than previous games, says Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto V will pile on the action at a faster rate than any of its predecessors, Rockstar has said.

According to Rockstar North boss Leslie Benzies, players will be greeted by intense missions from the get-go.

"We want to surprise people with very intense missions from the start. The pace of the game is much faster than any of its predecessors,” Benzies told Jeuxactu (via OXM).

"From the beginning, we want to show off the new game mechanics while creating intense, action-packed gameplay, to capture the player’s attention immediately.”

This decision is partly a narrative one too, as the playable characters are already well-integrated into Los Santos, and have built up a steady portfolio of contacts and criminal activities – they’re not newbies, after all.

"Remember that the three characters in the game are already living in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas," Benzies added. "They are not newcomers like Niko and Tommy Vercetti, or people returning after a long absence like CJ.”

“They already have contacts, they are integrated with the world and lead a busy life – these characteristics should give players a sense of immediate and total immersion.”

GTA V is due out on September 17 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game’s depiction of Los Santos and its surrounding areas is the largest ever game environment created by Rockstar, and is jam-packed with activities outside of the main missions.

Unlike previous titles, this time around you’ll control three playable characters: Franklin, Michael and Trevor. The trio each have their own unique personalities and backstory, and can team up to tackle various objectives. You’ll be able to switch between anti-heroes instantaneously at any point in the game once they are unlocked.
