Sony: PS4 ‘most powerful games console ever,’ will last as long as PS3

PlayStation 4 architect Mark Cerny has said he expects the new console to last roughly as long as its predecessor.

Speaking in the latest issue of OPM UK, Cerny was asked if he thought PS4 would be able to match PS3’s seven-year-and-counting lifecycle.

In response, he said, “It looks pretty healthy to me. The PS4 cycle will be pretty much like the PS3 cycle.”

In regards to the causal audience – something which Sony has attempted to embrace with family-friendly titles such as SingStar and PlayStation Move – Cerny’s message to them regarding PS4 is simple:

“The most important thing is that it’s the most powerful games console ever created.”

Cerny has been the public face of PS4 since its announcement back in February. In addition to being involved in the machine’s innards and the brains behind upcoming launch title Knack, Cerny has an impressive pedigree when it comes to first-party titles.

He was involved with the original Uncharted game back in 2007, and has also worked on Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, God of War III and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. His first hit was way back in 1984 with Marble Madness.

PS4 is due out this holiday season.
