Spec Ops developer working on AAA free-to-play military shooter

Several job listings have cropped up on Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager’s website, affirming that the studio is indeed working on a new free-to-play military shooter.

Spotted by CVG, the job listings pertain to a multitude of positions, ranging from senior 3D artist to senior multiplayer level designer, for work on a ‘’AAA F2P project’’. The Berlin-based studio specifically asks for experience in the design of weapons, ’’armor and military gear’’, as well as vehicles and architecture – alluding to the fact that this newest shooter is very much in the military mould.

Epic Games had confirmed back in March that Yager Development is the only independent developer in Europe to license the Unreal Engine 4, but it is unclear, however, whether or not the new title will utilize such an engine. Considering Yager’s only other console game, Spec Ops: The Line was created using the Unreal Engine 3 we wouldn’t bet against it.

With titles like Warframe and DC Universe Online proving that the free-to-play system is a feasible business model for today’s gaming consoles, it is no wonder that other developers are following suit. Especially considering the lukewarm sales figures that Yager’s previous title, Spec Ops: The Line, generated – despite garnering critical praise following its release.
