Speaking during an interview with EDGE (via Examiner), the creator behind the PlayStation 3-exclusive adventure The Last Guardian has touched on the changes that next-generation home consoles bring to video game development.
Fumito Ueda told the publication that, “Videogames and technology are inextricable from one another. It will be like that for the next few years at least. Compared with the early days, game engines’ creation and editing tools have given the artists and designers [greater] control. You will be able to control expression in finer detail. And I hope the speed of iteration will increase.”
Ueda-san is currently working as a freelancer for Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), where he continues work on the long-delayed The Last Guardian.
Originally announced in 2009, the ambitious adventure game was pegged for a holiday 2011 release before being pushed back to an undisclosed date. Numerous development issues have plagued the title ever since, and while rumors that the title has moved to PS4 persist, Sony insists it is still on track for the PS3.
