Microsoft took a not so subtle jab at Sony by offering $100 to “ditch your PS3” in a new trade-in ad (via NeoGAF) sent via email.
The good vibes between the console competitors stemming from the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One appears to have come to an end.
The Microsoft Store site is a little more politically correct by stating that the $100 store credit is for select gaming console trade-ins which include the PS3, Xbox 360 S, or Xbox 360 E.
Sony soundly defeated Microsoft in the public relations arena throughout 2013 and continues to do well in 2014. Microsoft scored a victory in the U.S. with Xbox One topping PS4 sales in December. Much of that could be attributed to lack of PS4s on store shelves. Sony still claims more cumulative sales with 4.2 million units sold through December 31.
The Xbox One has been under the microscope recently with lower frame rates on multi-platform games and an upcoming patch that is scheduled to beef up the graphical output of the Xbox One.
The trade-in promotion runs through March 2, 2014 and is available in the U.S. only. The February PlayStation Plus preview is a pretty good argument to not ditch your PS3 yet.
Special thanks to mickice on the PSU forum for the scoop.
Is this a desperate attempt to woo gamers to the Xbox One? How should Sony respond? Sound off in the comments.
