Bethesda Softworks today announced the release date of Wolfenstein: The New Order on PS4 and PS3, but in doing so confirmed the existence of a new DOOM game.
That’s because pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order nets you access to "the beta for the next DOOM game," as global community lead Matt ‘Gstaff’ Grandstaff describes on the PlayStation Blog. Aaand… that’s all we know. DOOM beta keys will be inserted into pre-ordered copies of Wolfenstein when they ship, but the beta itself will launch at "a later, yet-to-be-announced date." Beta platforms haven’t been announced, but it’s a safe bet that, at the very least, all next-gen platforms Wolfenstein ships on will also play host to the DOOM beta.
Meanwhile, Wolfenstein: The New Order will release for PS4 and PS3 on May 20, 2014, with a Day 1 Digital version for both platforms available on the PlayStation Store. Presumably, pre-ordering via the PlayStation Store will offer DOOM beta keys via email.
Wolfenstein news has been pretty scarce since last summer, but we know that you play as series mainstay B.J. Blazkowicz and fight Nazis with superweapons in an alternate-history ’60s where the Nazis won World War II. The game’s E3 2013 trailer is below, there’s a new trailer out today, and there’s a lot more to see on Bethesda’s official YouTube channel.
