$15 million worth of digital content will be given out to users affected by the large scale PlayStation Network security breach of 2011, which saw hackers gain access to data from 77 million user accounts.
Following the breach, Sony Computer Entertainment America introduced the "Welcome Back" package, compensating those affected with free PS3 and PSP games, as well as PlayStation Plus subscriptions. Polygon reports that users are set to be further compensated, pending the judge’s approval, to the tune of $15 million worth of content, including games, themes and subscriptions.
The decision comes following a number of class action lawsuits that were filed following the breach that claimed that Sony didn’t protect consumers well enough. Polygon states that those who originally applied for the "Welcome Back" package will receive a game and a theme, or a PlayStation Plus subscription. Those who didn’t take advantage of the "Welcome Back" offer “will be able to choose two separate benefit options or two instances of one PSN benefit option.” This will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
However, it still looks like users will have to wait quite a while to redeem their compensation with a final hearing not set to take place until May 1, 2015.
