If you want the best weaponry, ships and amour in Destiny you’ll need to earn Glimmer.
The obvious way of doing this is by completing missions and killing enemies, but it pays to know the best places to hunt for large packs of baddies, where you can also benefit from Engram drops which can be used to increase your proficiency in battle, or dismantle for parts and extra glimmer.
Check out the three places where we’ve been farming Glimmer and benefiting from picking up Engrams.
Location: The Moon – Shrine of Onyx
Use: Black Wax Idol – Temporarily boosts glimmer when you kill Hive enemies for 10 minutes.
Best for earning: Glimmer
Play this mission on HARD LEVEL (Ranking 12 or 20). This will ensure that more Glimmer drops each time you kill a Hive enemy.
Use the Black Wax Idol in your inventory about half way through the mission, when the frequency of enemies increases. You’ll encounter plenty of Hallowed Acolytes (yellow bar above their heads) which drop plenty of Glimmer.
You will also earn another Black Wax Idol for completing the mission. You can then keep repeating the activity.
Location: Patrol Cosmodrome – Old Russia, Earth
Use: Black Wax Idol for more Glimmer
Best for earning: Glimmer farming, Engram drops
Check out the video to find the room where there are level 18 enemies. Obviously, it pays in this instance to have you character at a decent level so that you’re capable of taking these bad boys down.
To maximise glimmer drop, use a Black Wax Idol. You will receive additional idols for repeating this activity (dropping about every 10 minutes).
The enemies respawn approximately after every two minutes so just hang around and pop back into the room and kill them again.
We were gaining 100-150 glimmer every 2 minutes and getting an engram drop approximately every 5 minutes.
Location: PATROL VENUS, Ishtar Sink
Use: Ether Seeds for picking up Glimmer from fallen enemies
Best for earning: Engram Drops
Time to slaughter some goblins! Follow the path shown on the video to enter the area where you’ll find swarms of goblins and dredge. The glimmer drop isn’t particularly brilliant here, though it’s worth using some Ether Seeds to mop up what you can.
Enemies will respawn really quickly and there’s a huge opportunity to pick up multiple engrams by killing everything in sight and then repeating the process. You can dismantle the green ones for Glimmer and parts and decrypt the blues ones at the Cryptarch. We secured many decent rare items using this method.
