Prey 2 has not been canned, says Bethesda

Prey 2 hasn’t been cancelled, Bethesda’s marketing head Pete Hines has confirmed.

Hines was responding to claims that he had confirmed the game’s cancellation during a chat with IGN Benelux. However, this turned out to be a mistranslation:

“To clarify, I didn’t say Prey 2 was canx. Gave an interview in English, Translated to Dutch, translated back to English. #LostInTranslation,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Simply reiterated what we’ve said previously, which is that it’s not coming out this year.”

Prey 2’s status had been put into question after reports circulated earlier this year claiming that developer Human Head had stopped working on the game in November 2011. This was supposedly down to a contract dispute with ZeniMax Media, though nothing was ever confirmed.

Bethesda officially confirmed Prey 2’s delay in April this year. The Bounty-hunting sequel itself takes on an open-world approach, a strike contrast to the linear nature of its predecessor.

Stay tuned for more details as we get them.
