PlayStation Network is back online, says Sony, though we still can’t connect

Sony Computer Entertainment has issued a statement confirming the DDoS attack on the PlayStation Network over the past few days that left thousands of gamers unable to access the online service.

In the statement, Sony also states that the PSN is back online and reassures consumers who recieved a new console for Christmas that the problems were not caused by their PS4s.

The statement reads: “UPDATE: PlayStation Network is back online. As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days. Thanks again for your support and patience. We’ll provide any further updates here.”

Though some users are back online, there’s still many reports via social media and gaming forums that some still can’t connect, including the PSU team who haven’t been able to get onto the network since Christmas Day. The last update via the @AskPlayStation Twitter account was three hours ago, stating that the service is being restored. We’d expect the PSN to be up and running for everyone at some point today.
