PlayStation Network customers in North America are now being contacted by Sony in regards to how they can claim compensation for the 2011 PSN outage.
The format holder confirmed that compensation applies to those who maintained a PSN, Qriocity, or Sony Online account before May 15, 2011. Only U.S. customers apply, however.
If that’s you, then Sony suggests you head here and start filling out a form.
As mentioned, the compensation only applies to U.S. customers, as it comes on the back of a North American-based class action lawsuit. The claim was settled last year when Sony agreed to offer up to $15 million in compensation.
Sony is offering digital-based items for those eligible, such as PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable titles including Dead Nation, inFAMOUS, Killzone: Liberation, and LittleBigPlanet. Many of these formed part of the corporation’s ‘Welcome Back’ package following the outage.
Alternatively, users can plump for three months of free PlayStation Plus subscription.
The 2011 PSN hack saw some 77 million user account details compromised, with Sony’s flagship online service pulled offline for an unprecedented 23 days. The whole fiasco was said to cost Sony around $171.2 million.
