Shenmue 3 has surpassed its $2 million Kickstarter goal less than 24 hours after the initiative was launched during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference yesterday evening.
The action-RPG sequel, fronted by legendary video game developer, Yu Suzuki, is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and PC and has 31 more days to go despite breezing through the $2 million barrier just over an hour ago.
It’s also the fastest video game on Kickstarter to reach the one million barrier, and the second fastest crowdfunded project ever to hit the milestone.
At this point, there seems to be no limited as to how much Shenmue fans are willing to contribute to the long-delayed project, which continues the story of Ryo Hazuki’s quest for vengeance following 2001’s Shenmue II on Dreamcast and Xbox.
Suzuki-san conceived Shenmue as a multi-chapter adventure franchise, although despite his best efforts has been unable to get Shenmue 3 off the ground until now.
