Dark Souls 3 isn’t being developed by the Bloodborne team

In an E3 presentation translated via Bandai Namco producer Atsuo Yoshimura, Dark Souls 3’s game director has confirmed that the sequel is being developed by a different team than the one which created Bloodborne.

In particular, he noted that only Miyazaki himself and “some visual designers” at From Software have worked on both titles and that the development timeframe of Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 overlaps by one year.

Supporting Miyazaki in the director’s chair is Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Director Isamu Okano, who will adopt a co-director role for the game. Dark Souls 2 Director Yui Tanimura will also be joining the team, but in a non-director role.

Essentially, the way this new team works, is that Okano and Tanimura will be supporting Miyazaki’s direction, rather than creating their own according to Yoshimura:

"Miyazaki-san is taking lead on the overall production, the basic game features, direction, as well as the visual design direction," Yoshimura said. "Okano-san is basically handling the mass production part as well as the human resource control. The best way to explain how Okano-san and Miyazaki-san are working together is that Okano-san is basically supporting Miyazaki-san’s direction."

Dark Souls 3 is set to release for PlayStation 4 sometime in early 2016. Until then however, you can check out our own hands-on impressions of Miyazaki’s latest.
