Shenmue HD hinted at by Yu Suzuki

Yu Suzuki has confirmed that he plans to enter talks with SEGA regarding the possibility of Shenmue & Shenmue II HD.

Speaking during a recent Q&A on Twitch (via DigitalSpy), the legendary games designer revealed that high-definition revamps of his seminal Dreamcast adventure games have yet to happen as SEGA holds the rights to both titles.

As such, it is entirely down to the Japanese software maker whether or not Shenmue HD will see the light of day. However, Suzuki-san made it clear he’s aiming to make it possible.

The former SEGA developer also said that he’s hoping to have a physical release of Shenmue III released for the PlayStation 4.

Shenmue was released on the Dreamcast in 1999 and received a sequel in 2001. Shenmue II was also released on the Xbox in 2002 after it was decided not to give the sequel a U.S. release due to SEGA pulling out of the hardware business.

Shenmue III was announced via a Kickstarter initiative during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, where it went on to hit its $2 million goal in less than 24 hours. The title holds the record of the fastest video game to reach $1 million on Kickstarter.

The game is scheduled for release in December 2017 on PS4 and PC.
