Rocket League PS4 overheating temporary fix

If you downloaded Rocket League on PS4 yesterday you may have noticed a few things. Firstly, just how much fun it is to play, once you’ve got the hang of it and stop scoring own goals! Secondly, the servers have been offline so there’s no online multiplayer matches just yet while the developer investigates. Thirdly, is the incredible noise that your PS4 fan makes while you’re browsing or idle in the menu system.

The cause of the PS4 overheating is currently being investigated, and we’d expect a fix soon, but we’ve found out a way to calm the fan down so it returns to reasonable noise levels, which also means your PS4 won’t get as hot.

Right now, it’s not letting us take a video or screenshots of Rocket League via SharePlay, but if you just check the photo we’ve taken below you can see what you need to do, and it takes just a couple of seconds.

Rocket League PS4 overheating fix

When in the menu, by default your car will be shown from the side-on view. However, if you use your right analog stick to tweak the camera angle so it’s directly above the car we noticed that the revving of the PS4 fan starts to subside. Sure enough, we bring the camera back down to the side on view and it starts to rev up again. We have no idea why this little fix works, but perhaps the overheating is caused by something to do with the background animations when you have the car in side-on view, where you’ll see the crowds in the stadium waving flags.

So…

How to stop your PS4 from overheating in Rocket League

– Go the main menu
– Use right analog stick to move camera above your car
– After a minute or two you’ll notice the noise of the PS4 reduce

Let us know whether this worked for you, as it could just be a fluke on our PS4! Either way, a proper fix should be deployed shortly! Stay tuned to the official Rocket League Facebook page for updates.
