PS4 beats Xbox One in August 2015 U.S. hardware sales

The NPD Group has confirmed that PlayStation 4 was the top-selling home console in the U.S. last month, beating out the Xbox One once again.

While exact sales figures were not divulged, Sony released a statement reflecting on a successful month, noting positive sales for the PS4 version of Madden NFL 16 and the well received PS4 beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

We would like to thank our fans and partners for their ongoing support of PlayStation and for making PS4 the top selling console and #1 in software sales in North America in August. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to delivering the best content line-up with the launch of first-party exclusives like Until Dawn and third-party titles like Madden NFL 16, which sold more on PS4 than any other platform. In August we also saw the most successful Beta in PS4 history with Call of Duty: Black Ops III, marking a significant milestone in our new partnership with Activision. We look forward to furthering momentum with the launch of Destiny: The Taken King next week.”

Sony launched the PS4 in November 2013 and has shipped just over 25 million units worldwide to date. In the U.K., the console has outsold Xbox One every month of 2015 so far, with sales in the country tracking well ahead of the multi-million selling PS2.
