Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps announced for PS4

Speaking at Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show 2015 press conference earlier today, Capcom announced an all-new entry in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps, a competitive-based shooter for the PlayStation 4.

The game is a hybrid of both first-person and third-person perspectives, and sees members of the Umbrella Corporation battling it out against each other while mixing it up with zombies and other mutated creatures.

From the look of things, it has a very similar feel to Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the critically-panned third-person shooter released a few years back on PS3 and Xbox 360.

No release date has been given yet, although we know it’s due out in 2016.

Resident Evil will celebrate its 20th anniversary on March 22, 2016, and Capcom has quite a lot in store for the series going forward. Aside from Umbrella Corps, it’s remastering Resident Evil Zero in high-definition early next year, and will package Zero alongside Resident Evil HD Remaster as part of the ‘Origins Collection‘ around the same time.

In addition, and perhaps most excitingly, the Japanese publisher has confirmed that a remake of Resident Evil 2 is now officially underway, although we probably won’t see that for a couple more years.

Finally, rumors of Resident Evil 7 continue to gather pace, although nothing official has been confirmed as of yet. Considering the last full instalment in the series was released back in 2012 however, we expect to hear something on the next numbered entry in the venerable horror franchise next year, possibly around the 20th anniversary.
