Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter coming to PS4, is a prologue to Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue is coming to PlayStation 4, Square Enix announced during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show 2015 press conference today.

Acting as a precursor title to the hotly anticipated Kingdom Hearts III, Final Chapter Prologue remasters Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance, which was originally released on 3DS back in 2012.

The game sees protagonists Sora and Riku prepare for impending threats as the take on the Mark of Mastery Exam in events that will lead up to Kingdom Hearts III.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue includes three games in total: Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts Chi: Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage.

The bundle follows on from previous HD re-releases in the popular Disney-RPG series, including Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX

Kingdom Hearts III is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was announced during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference, and while a release date hasn’t been announced, Tetsuya Nomura already has an idea when it will ship.

It was recently confirmed that Kingdom Hearts III will feature elements from Big Hero 6, though the game will eschew Quick-Time Events. Square Enix has teased that we can expect a near-seamless game world with few loading times, with online elements also hinted at.
