The launch of Destiny: The Taken King introduces a wealth of changes to the world of Bungie’s shared-world shooter, chief among them a complete revamp of how Xur, Agent of the Nine operates when he makes his weekly visits to the Tower/Reef.
Speaking in its latest weekly update, the former Halo developer outlined various changes for the enigmatic merchant, including the fact he will no longer stock a guaranteed exotic weapon each week. Instead, the hooded salesman will stock either a exotic weapon or a yellow engram every week.
"This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory,” commented Bungie.
Elsewhere, Xur will now stock the Three of Coins consumable, which increases the chance of bosses dropping an exotic engram. They also have a stacking effect, so if one doesn’t drop the goods, the next boss will have a greater chance of doing so.
Last but not least, Xur will flog an exotic engram that will only decode into year-one exotic weapons. The aim of this is to allow veteran Guardians the chance to complete their exotic collection.
