Fresh from a stellar showcase at Paris Games Week, which resulted in a number of new games announced for PlayStation 4 in including Detroit from Quantic Dream, Sony has suggested that we haven’t seen the last of the surprise announcements, hinting at more to come for December’s PlayStation Experience in San Francisco.
Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, Jim Ryan, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), teased that the format holder has more announcements up its sleeves for next month.
"I’m sure there’ll be a few surprises for PlayStation Experience. Moving from a global calendar of three events to a calendar of four events, it keeps the heat on the developers to churn out new stuff, which is good," said Ryan.
Elsewhere, the executive also spoke highly of Detroit, which casts gamers in the role of an android and is based heavily off the PS3 Kara tech demo from 2012.
"It’s nice to have different sorts of stuff on the platform, and David brings that. I loved Heavy Rain – that’s my kind of game – and I think, as an industry, as development risk becomes greater, there’s a risk that we’re recycling low risk annual iterations. People like David bring a fresh and different approach. That’s great, and it’s important that stuff continues to happen and prosper," he said.
Sony used Paris Games Week to unveil a number of new titles, including Tekken 7 for PS4, DriveClub Bikes, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Gran Turismo Sport, and many more. In addition, it was also confirmed that the PS4 has reached another milestone in terms of worldwide shipments to retailers, with the console reaching nearly 30 million units sold-in since its launch in November 2013. Furthermore, PS4 triumphed as the best-selling console in the U.S. for September 2015, wtih Sony also recording a massive surge in PlayStation Store revenue during the same period.
Sony announced yesterday that it has expanded PlayStation Now with the addition of 105 new games, bringing the total number of titles to 250 for its cloud-based streaming service. PS Now also recently launced in the U.K., allowing gamers to enjoy a back catalogue of software for £12.99 per month.
