Star Wars Battlefront‘s DLC will be rolled out over a 12-18 month period and include new universes and weapons, Pete Moore, Electronic Arts’ Chief Operating Officer (COO), said during the publishing giant’s latest investors call.
"What we’ve announced is four extra packs over the next 12-18 months coming post launch. You’ll see new universes, you’re gonna see new player actions, obviously new weaponry as well," said Moore.
The revelation that the DLC will incorporate new universes is particularly interesting, as Star Wars Battlefront’s base game takes place in the original trilogy (that is, covering the films A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi). However, there’s plenty of other areas fans are eager to see too, including the prequel trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) and even the upcoming The Force Awakens.
Elsewhere, Moore confirmed that EA is now targeting sales of 13 million units globally for Star Wars Battlefront, thanks largely to large pre-order figures and the successful beta period, which attracted over nine million gamers.
Star Wars Battlefront is scheduled to ship on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 17 and November 20 in North America and Europe, respectively. Battlefront is seen as a reboot of sorts of the popular science-fiction shooter franchise, which garnered huge popularity during the PS2 era. However, unlike previous games, the game won’t include a single-player campaign, instead focusing on large-scale multiplayer battles across iconic planets such as Hoth, Tatooine, Endor, and Sullust.
Players take on the role of either the Rebels or the Empire as they go head-to-head in heated firefights, where you’ll be taking down massive walkers, securing drop pods, and even stepping into the legendary boots of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Han Solo, and many more of Star Wars’ iconic characters. Battlefront’s Season Pass will set you back $49.99, though unlike many modern video games will not feature microtransactions. In terms of performance, the game will run at 900p on PS4.
