Hot on the heels of Sony’s confirmation that it is bring PlayStation 2 emulation to the PlayStation 4, the electronics giant has now taken to Twitter to ask fans what classic titles they’d like to see made available for its current-generation home console.
Sony’s External Development Studio Europe (Sony XDEV) posted the question on the social networking site yesterday, and was immediately met with a barrage of replies, ranging from gamers to Evolution Studios’ Paul Rustchynsky. Unsurprisingly, the DriveClub developer quite fancied seeing his own WRC: Rally brought to the PS4 as a PS2 Classic. SOCOM also proved a popular choice, having been one of the PS2’s standout online multiplayer experiences.

Sony’s PS4 is the only console since the PS2 not to include some form of backwards compatibility, with the PS2 allowing gamers to play PSOne games, while early models of the PS3 allowed you to play two previous generations of PlayStation content. However, Sony is investing heavily in the cloud-based streaming service, PlayStation Now, which currently allows users to play a variety of PS3 content, with games from the PS2 and PSOne era also in the pipeline.
Speaking of PS now, Sony recently added a whopping 105 new titles to the service in North America, including 21 games from Resident Evil creator, Capcom. PS now recently launched in the U.K., where it will cost you £12.99 per to enjoy a range of classic PS3 content streamed to PlayStation-compatible devices. Hopefully we’ll find out more about Sony’s PS2 emulation plans at the PlayStation Experience in December, which takes place in San Francisco and will feature a number of playable games such as the PS4 version of Beyond: Two Souls, Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster, and Street Fighter V.
