Dead Rising dev teams with Unreal Engine 4 to make ‘incredible new gameplay experiences’

The development team behind the Dead Rising franchise has announced it has partnered with Epic Games to create a series of ‘incredible new gameplay experiences’ utilising the Unreal Engine 4.

Capcom’s Vancouver Studio confirmed that details on these new projects will be revealed at a later date, and is currently staffing up to expand its team as it moves forward with the as-yet unannounced titles.

Joe Nickolls, Capcom Game Studio Vancouver Studio Head, commented: “We have some ambitious visions for where we want to take our next games and while our previous proprietary engine served the needs for the projects at the time, shifting to Unreal Engine 4 delivers the right tools for our future direction.

Not only will we be developing on a powerful and versatile platform, we’ll also work closely with the team at Epic to maximize the capabilities of the latest and greatest technology. Using this industry leading engine also allows us to quickly integrate new talent onto our projects so that we can focus on pioneering new world class entertainment.

Formally known as Blue Castle Games, the studio was formed back in 2004 and worked on titles including The Bigs and its sequel, before developing Dead Rising 2 and its various expansions, including Case West, in 2010. Following the release of Dead Rising 2, the Blue Castle Games was acquired by Capcom where it was renamed Capcom Vancouver. The team’s latest project was the Xbox One-exclusive, Dead Rising 3.

Dead Rising was originally released on the Xbox 360 in 2006 and was masterminded by Keiji Inafune, the creator behind the Mega Man series. In addition to the video game franchise, the Dead Rising brand has also received its own movie adaptation in the shape of Dead Rising: Watchtower in 2015, which stars Rob Riggle as zombie-killing journalist, Frank West.
