New gameplay footage has surfaced online for From Software’s hotly anticipated dungeon crawler, Dark Souls 3.
Captured from a livestream by PGMadeira, the gameplay video offers a glimpse at some of the brutal RPG’s combat mechanics, and places emphasis on utilising the knife and bow weapons. Have a gander at it beow.
Dark Souls 3 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in the U.S. and Europe on April 12. The game is being headed up by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the ‘Souls’ series, following a reduced role as supervisor on Dark Souls 2. Miyazaki-san has indicated that this is to be the final chapter in the Dark Souls series.
This latest chapter in the notoriously difficult action-RPG franchise strongly adheres to the gameplay mechanics established by its predecessor, although does include some new features. Chief among these is the ‘Ready Stance,’ which was partly inspired by characters such as Guts (Berserk) and Legolas (The Lord of the Rings). There is also greatly emphasis on the RPG elements this time around.
The Souls series first began in 2009 with the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls, which attracted rave reviews and has maintained a cult following to this day. Beginning with the original Dark Souls however, the franchise secured more mainstream appeal, and Dark Souls 2 further cemented the series’ commercial success.
Miyazaki-san also worked on the PS4-exclusive dungeon crawler Bloodborne, which is seen as something of a spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series. Released in March 2015, Bloodborne also became a massive hit, eventually selling over one million copies worldwide.
