Global sales of the PlayStation 4 will reach a whopping 69 million by 2019, according to TJ Wagner, Creative Director & Executive Producer of World of Tanks developer, Wargaming.
Speaking during a presentation at the Game Developers Conference last month, which has only now just been released for public consumption, Wagner also revealed that the firm expects Xbox One sales to hit 39 million in the same time frame.
He added that Sony’s current-generation console has close to 36 million active units right now, putting it significantly ahead of rival Microsoft, which he estimates has nearly 19 million Xbox One units in the wild.
This figure ties in with what Sony announced earlier this year when it said that PS4 had sold 35.9 million units worldwide. Microsoft has been notoriously shy on confirming any sales figures for its latest home console, however.
Sony has a major year lined up, with exclusives including Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Ratchet & Clank, No Man’s Sky, Gran Turismo Sport and The Last Guardian all hitting the PS4 in 2016.
Furthermore, the console maker will also launch PlayStation VR, the virtual reality headset for PS4, in October. The device will cost £349/$399 and will be compatible with a range of software, including Ace Combat 7, Dreams, Gran Turismo Sport and Tekken 7.
Sony has announced that it hopes to have around 50 games out by the end of the year for PS VR, with over 230 developers currently working on titles for the headset.
