2K Games has announced that it has acquired elite3D, a company dedicated to innovating in 2D and 3D artwork for video games, as well as Turia Games, which is co-owned by founders of elite3D.
Elite3D is based in Valencia, Spain, and will form a second office for fellow 2K-owned studio 31st Union, as well as establishing a new 2K publishing location to focus on its Global Services division. 31st Union is helmed by Michael Condrey, and is currently working on an unannounced AAA game. The new Valencia office complement development of this project at the company’s headquarters in San Mateo.
President 2K boss David Ismailer commented:
elite3d has made a significant impact on our industry by helping many developers and publishers bring their games to life through best-in-class passion and creativity. The team’s work style and employee culture are also a great complement to our vision and values.
We look forward to seeing our new colleagues contribute to the progress made to date by 31st Union and play a key role in the growth and development of Global Services for our current and future games.
Additional employees at elite3D will form a new location for 2K’s Global Services division, aiding the company to further extend its global reach and support its expanding portfolio. As a result, they will join internal teams at 2K working on animation, art, motion capture, project management, game technology, talent casting, visual effects, and more.
