Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Andrew House has suggested that demand could outstrip supply for PlayStation VR when it launches this October.
Speaking with CNBC, House admitted that it’s still too early to tell what the public response will be to its virtual reality headset for PS4, but early signs suggest that they may struggle to fulfil orders come launch time.
"We have growing confidence that we’ll be supply constrained with this product, but we’ll do our very best to meet demand," House said. "Virtual reality is a medium that’s in its infancy. With such a nascent, very new form of storytelling, it’s difficult to predict what user uptake is going to be."
PlayStation VR launches on October 13, and some retailers have already stopped guaranteeing launch day deliveries. There’s expected to be over 50 PlayStation VR games released by the end of the year, including RIGS, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and PlayStation VR Worlds.
