Square Enix has announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will launch on PlayStation 4 on October 11, 2016 with a boatload of new content.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will coincide with the series’ 20th anniversary, having first launched back in 1996 on the Sega Saturn, PC, and PlayStation.
In addition to featuring the full Rise of the Tomb Raider experience that was previously available on Xbox One, the PS4 edition of Lara Croft’s latest adventure includes the new story chapter Blood Ties (complete with PlayStation VR support), a co-op Endurance mode, all previously released DLC, plus brand new costumes and Expedition Cards.
The 20 Year Celebration version will also be made available for PC and Xbox One gamers, although won’t include the VR support.
“The studio is celebrating with all Tomb Raider® fans, thanking them for being on Lara’s 20 year journey with us,” said Scot Amos, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “The team has packed in surprises, new story, and the top-requested special features into this 20 Year Celebration edition.”
“This year we celebrate 20 years of the iconic Lara Croft,” added Ron Rosenberg, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “This provided the perfect opportunity for us to deliver a new Tomb Raider experience. With the addition of PlayStation VR support, you can play the world through Lara’s eyes for the first time in franchise history.”
In addition to the new Endurance co-op gameplay, which allows gamers to raid tombs and survive the harsh wilderness together, Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 also includes five outfits for Lara that channel the classic Tomb Raider games, including one based on the Lara Croft model from the 1996 original.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was released on Xbox One last holiday season and has sold over one million copies to date.
