Square Enix announce during a conference at Paris Games Week today that both Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD REmix will be coming to PlayStation 4 in March 2017.
Kingdom Hearts PS4 collections announced for series’ 15th anniversary
Kingdom Hearts producer Shinji Hashimoto confirmed that both collections will benefit from some visual and performance enhancements on Sony’s flagship machine, including 60fps and will no doubt look a little prettier than its last-gen counterpart. The games hit North America on March 28 and Europe on March 31.
The news probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, considering Square Enix has previously hinted at bringing the collections to PS4 some time ago. Plus, 2017 is the series’ 15th anniversary, so it’s a solid way to introduce newcomers to the franchise who missed them on PS3.
Pleasingly, both Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 will be squeezed onto one single PS4 disc. Check out a trailer for the collections below.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 includes a remastered version of the original 2002 Disney-RPG classic (specifically the Final Mix version) and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. In addition, the theatre mode features high-definition cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.
Finally, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD REmix features a spruced up version of Kingdom Hearts II in addition to updated editions of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded. The latter is comprised of HD cutscenes similar to the first collection’s 358/2 Days.
Square Enix is currently working on the next full-fledged instalment in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3, for PS4 and Xbox One. However, the hotly anticipated project is currently without a release date.
