Final Kingdom Hearts 2.8 trailer shows character customization, more

Ahead of Jump Festa later this month, Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has just shared with the world the final trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue. While we have seen several trailers for it in the past, and even the opening cinematic for Birth by Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage, this latest look at the upcoming collection still manages to show off heaps of new tidbits to get excited about.

Of particular note are things such as outfit customization for Aqua, a thing never before seen in the Kingdom Hearts series. She also has Mickey as a partner for some of her journey, and they showcase some flashy and powerful combo attacks.

The story of Back Cover is still largely a mystery, but we also get a few fresh looks at the Foretellers, as well as a new series catchphrase: “May your heart be your guiding key.”

It ends most excitingly, with Sora, Donald, and Goofy crashing through a door in glorious Unreal Engine 4 graphics as Sora exclaims, “We’re back!”

We’ll have a more in-depth analysis of the trailer soon, so check back with PlayStation Universe for all your Kingdom Hearts needs!

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue launches exclusively for PS4 on January 24, 2017. This prequel compilation to Kingdom Hearts III contains three unique titles: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD – a remaster of the 2012 3DS title, Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage – which shows Aqua’s journey through the Realm of Darkness, and Kingdom Hearts X: Back Cover – an 80-minute cinematic movie telling the tale of the mysterious Foretellers.
