PS4 vs Xbox One: Sony beating Microsoft by 3-1 in Europe

ps4 vs xbox one

PlayStation 4 has notched up a huge lead over leading rival Xbox One throughout Europe, according to Sony’s global sales boss, Jim Ryan.

"It’s been pleasing that in North America, we’ve been two-to-one against Xbox," said Ryan. "But in Europe, it’s really been fortress PlayStation by at least three-to-one in unit sales."

Sony’s console has maintained a significant lead over the Xbox One since both formats launched in November 2013, although it wasn’t previously known just how great a lead the system had over its rival until now. In the U.S., the PS4 has frequently come out on top as the best-selling console on a monthly basis, as confirmed by the NPD Group.

PS4 has shipped 60 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2017, with the console tracking ahead of the PS2 in the U.K. Analysts have said that the console is poised to break the 100 million barrier during its lifetime, with one predicting sales of 175 million if Sony ever decides to lower the price to $200.

Sony has a number of high-profile exclusives on the horizon, including Days Gone, The Last of Us Part 2, God of War, Gran Turismo Sport, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. Expect to hear more on the company’s first-party lineup at E3 next week.
