Call of Duty WW2 multiplayer drops popular CoD system

Sledgehammer Games has announced on the PlayStation Blog that the upcoming Call of Duty WW2 multiplayer will eschew the popular create-a-class system utilised in previous games.

Instead, the upcoming first-person shooter will employ a new Divisions system, which signals a major shift in character customisation for the popular franchise, explains Sledgehammer’s Glen Schofield. "Divisions fundamentally redefines how players invest in their multiplayer soldier career," he said.

In place of customising your own load out and appearance, the new mode allows you to select from five different “iconic” World War II Divisions, each one possessing unique “combat training, division training, and weapons skills.” Nothing else was detailed in the post, although we expect to hear more info soon enough.

Elsewhere, Schofield touched on the Call of Duty WW2 War Mode, which takes the form of a story-based, asymmetric battle between opposing teams. Raven Software is also helping out on this section of the game.

"Allied and Axis soldiers clash in team-driven assault-and-defend gameplay in the fight for strategic objectives," he stated. "We partnered with Raven Software for development on War Mode."

Of course, this isn’t the only gameplay feature that Sledgehammer is kicking out for its latest Call of Duty game. The unlimited sprint mechanic will also not be making a comeback in this latest series entry, although that’s hardly surprising considering CoD: WW2 is going for a more realistic take on the action.

Call of Duty WW2 will ship for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 3, 2017. The game is the first entry in the long-running series to take place during the Second World War since 2008’s Call of Duty World at War, and focuses on the U.S. First Infantry Division as they take the fight to the Nazis across war-torn Europe during the period 1944-1945.
