The developer behind the upcoming WWE 2K18 has confirmed that the wrestling title will not be constrained by last-generation hardware, with the game only planned for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

WWE 2K has long been a cross-generation franchise, although this latest instalment is the first time since the launch of the PS4 that Visual Concepts has utilised the latest hardware as the lowest technical denominator. In other words, it’s built from the ground-up for Sony and Microsoft’s latest home consoles.

The official WWE Twitter account confirmed the news during an exchange with a fan, who apparently has yet to make the transition to PS4. WWE 2K18 features former WWE Champion Seth Rollins as this year’s cover star, with the game confirmed for release on October 17, 2017. Furthermore, WWE 2K18 will come in three flavors: Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Edition, while pre-orders will net you a special bonus that will be detailed at a later date.

As for Rollins, it seems he’s involved in the game beyond starring on the cover, as the press blurb confirms: "Rollins will personify WWE 2K18’s worldwide marketing campaign–Be Like No One–which invites players to explore Rollins’ identity, as well as those of several other WWE Superstars, while learning more about the game."
