Watch Star Wars Battlefront II PS4 Pro gameplay, marvel at the technical brilliance

While some games are shown off on high-end gaming PCs and passed off as console gameplay to rope in the unsuspecting gaming public, DICE doesn’t need to do any of that for Star Wars Battlefront II. I mean, seriously, have you seen gameplay of it yet? It’s definitely no slouch in the graphics department.

The fine folks at Digital Foundry managed to get their hands on Star Wars Battlefront II at gamescom, and what’s more, they tested it on the PlayStation 4 Pro. Bear in mind that the game code their dissecting is far from complete, but so far so good, it’s runnin at a native 1080p, with no checkerboarding or downsampling — at least from what Digital Foundry has noticed so far. It’s running at a smooth 60 frames per second (fps) for the most part, too, which is surprising. Check out the footage below to see it all in action, and to hear the folks at Digital Foundry lay some technical info on the ground.

Other bits from the video, DICE is using Photogrammetry once again, which the studio also used for the first Battlefront to give us that that super accurate models and whatnot. The vehicle sections are being developed by the Criterion guys, but obviously on the same Frostbite engine that DICE created from scratch which is being used by almost every EA game out there.

Lastly, Digital Foundry mentioned that while 60fps is maintained for the most part, it dips to the mid 50’s during the space station part, which is not that bad considering all the stuff that’s being rendered and other bells and whistles in the background as well.

Star Wars Battlefront II will be released on the PS4, Xbox One and PC this November 17. Before that though, there will be a multiplayer beta, which you can read about here.
