A look at the top casino games on the PS4

If you are looking for a classic gambling experience, you would typically visit a virtual casino or one of the numerous good bingo sites.

We live in a fascinating age of cross-platform gaming, however, where online gambling and casino experiences are becoming increasingly accessible through console titles.

In this post, we will look at a new casino in the UK and three of the best and most popular casino games on the PS4 platform, and ask how they have integrated virtual casino gameplay into their narrative:

1. Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V

There is no finer place to start than with Grand Theft Auto V (or GTA V to you and me), which was one of the very first console games to integrate virtual casino gameplay. Developed by Rockstar Games, this is also considered to be one of the finest open world titles ever to be released, with its DLC update delivering a ground-breaking exercise in cross-platform gaming.

It is a testament to this game’s longevity that, despite having being released back in 2013, it was still ranked in the top three most popular PS4 games last year. Much of this is attributed to its casino gameplay and live DLC feature, which enables players to wager real money as part of the title’s overarching narrative.

There is no doubt that these features added a unique dimension and sense of authenticity to the GTA franchise, while it also blazed a trail for other developers to follow.

2. Prominence Poker

A game that is available on both the PS4 and Xbox One platform, Prominence Poker was published by 505 Studios and is one of the many that followed the example of GTA V. It has built on this with a strong focus on poker and excellent arcade gameplay, which should appeal to card fans who enjoy the challenges associated with Texas Hold ’em.

There are downsides to such an approach, of course, with the lack of diversity and alternative dream casino games such as roulette and blackjack is potentially discouraging some players from participating. It does have a niche appeal that is easy to market, however, while the quality of the gameplay and interaction with dealers is to be admired.

3. Red Dead Redemption

If GTA V set the standard for casino gameplay on the PS4, it may be argued that Red Dead Redemption has raised the bar even higher.

This may have something to do with the fact that both games have been created by the same development team (Rockstar Games), and while Red Dead Redemption is not an exclusive casino game it does include a number of innovative side features that enable players to place wagers. The subtle but creative use of casino gameplay has certainly enriched the title, and it contributes heavily to Red Dead Redemption’s reputation as one of the greatest video games ever released on the consumer market.

Interestingly, a long-awaited sequel has been scheduled for release later in 2017, although the extent to which the title will feature casino gameplay has yet to be determined.
