Mateusz Lenart, the director on Bloober Team’s seminal Silent Hill 2 Remake, has revealed during a chat with Bonfire Conversations that he once pitched a fantasy horror game based on the Lord of the Rings.
While he didn’t go into much detail, Lenart said that his dream project would be a fantasy horror title, to which the interviewer then suggested something in realm of The Lord of The Rings. In response, Lenart commented, “Don’t think I didn’t pitch my ideas around that.”

The Lord of the Rings has seen numerous video game outings released in the past two decades or so, from the adaptations of Peter Jackson’s movie trilogy to original offerings such as Monolith’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, and more.
There’s definitely plenty of room for a horror-themed Lord of the Rings game, although you would have to frame it in a specific event or period; the Dead Marshes and the Ring Wraiths are prime examples of some of the more spookier elements of the story.
