The legendary composer dropped the comments during a promotional interview for one of his latest soundtrack works, which was for the game DarkSwitch. Here, he was asked “Is there a dream franchise you’d like to work on?,” revealing Resident Evil as his answer.
Well, I’d really love to work with the Resident Evil franchise. It’s a horror game I used to play a lot, so it would be great if I can get a chance.

Yamaoka was also asked whether he felt games were becoming more similar or different in regards to being developed by Western or Eastern studios, to which he replied:
I wonder. I don’t think they are getting similar, but I also don’t think they have many differences. Although, there will be many if you look at them with an artistic point of view, based on the cultural backgrounds of each country, like Japan or the United States, and of course European countries. Still, I don’t think the cores of the games are too different from each other.
Yamaoka’s involvement with Silent Hill dates back to the original 1999 psychological horror title, and he subsequently worked on Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill 4: The Room, Silent Hill: The Arcade, Silent Hill Origins, Silent Hill Homecoming, and Silent Hill Shattered Memories. He returned to the franchise with Silent Hill 2 Remake and also worked on the upcoming Silent Hill f.
In addition, Yamaoka also composed the soundtrack for Slitterhead, the debut project from Bokeh Game Studio that was co-founded by Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama.
