Speaking on the Kinda Funny Games Daily show, Sam Lake, creative director at Remedy, has revealed that the studio has been keen to make longer games for a while now, hence why its latest effort, Alan Wake 2, clocks in at over 20 hours.
This figure was previously shared during an interview with Remedy’s Director of Communications, Thom Puha, and now Lake has weighed in on the subject, revealing Alan Wake 2 tops Control in regards to overall game length.
So Control was our longest game to date, and Alan Wake 2 is going to be longer than that — 20 hours plus.
Elsewhere, Lake also revealed that the series’ classic thermos flasks are not just a collectible item as in the original; they are used to save your game, similar to how ink ribbons were used with a typewriter in Resident Evil.
Alan Wake 2 is scheduled for release on October 27, 2023 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game takes place around 13 years after the events of the original game, and features two unique campaigns. One features Wake himself, who is trapped in the Dark Place after the events 2010’s Alan Wake, and newcomer Saga Anderson, an FBI agent investigating a series of ritualistic murders in Bright Falls.
