Alan Wake And Control ‘Should Have Sold More,’ Says Remedy’s New CEO

Jean-Charles Gaudechon, the newly-appointed CEO of Remedy, has revealed during an interview with The Game Business that he feels both Alan Wake and Control should have sold more, but broadening both franchises with television and movie deals could help them achieve a wider appeal.

Remedy is already one of the biggest game authors, with very strong signature products. Now after seeing it from the inside, there’s so much more we can give in terms of super strong authored, creative, crazy stories and gameplay. Honestly, we haven’t achieved half of the potential in terms of the products that we make.

But as franchises Control, Alan Wake, etcetera, could give a lot more. There’s a vision on thinking bigger for some of these IPs, which need to find its audience much, much further than the current audience. It’s super exciting.

We need to think more about how we are approaching our IPs as a franchise/ How do we grow the community? [Our deal with] Annapurna goes into making our games, our franchises shine further and reach an audience that doesn’t exist today. It’s a pity, I think Alan Wake should have sold more. Control should have sold more.

The original Alan Wake was released in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and was ported to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in October 2021. Alan Wake 2 arrived in October 2023, and in February 2025 Remedy announced that the game had sold two million units and had recouped its development and marketing costs. Control Resonant meanwhile is scheduled for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S later this year.
