The internet is a strange, strange place. More than two weeks after Sony pulled its PlayStation Network offline, the hacktivist group Sony pegged as the alleged attackers face an internal disruption. Anonymous, a group of hackers who typically use their abilities like old fashioned activists instead of simply stealing information, is apparently struggling with one of its own members. The group was responsible for a DDoS attack on Sony’s network several weeks ago. One of the hacktivist group’s members, Ryan, is apparently leading a DDoS attack on Anonymous. He has also allegedly taken over two of Anon’s websites and posted users’ IP addresses.
I say the internet is a strange, strange place because it’s hard to believe anything during this whole PSN attack. Sony alleges that Anonymous was responsible for the attack, yet Anonymous originally said they were not to blame. Now we apparently have an internal Anon attack that is either showing some form of truth, or simply spinning more rumors around the web.
As a word of caution, we recommend you stay away from Anonymous’ sites at this time. We know you are all tired of this and just want to get back online (just like us), but this is a good reminder of what happens when technology and (extremely, extremely sad) human nature collide.
Stay tuned for more on the PSN attack.
